Before even starting this project, I was already a big fan of the incredibly beloved documentary director Michael Moore. His style was incredibly influential to me during the making of this project.
Moore's first ever documentary, Roger & Me played a pretty huge role in said inspiration, the aspect of commenting on your hometown definitely inspired me a bit, even if the seriousness of living in an unwalkable city is nothing compared to the GM layoffs. The ending of Roger & Me in specific inspired this documentary's ending, in specific the idea of nothing really changing by the ending and the audience being left a bit dissatisfied. Watching Exit Through The Gift Shop, had a similar effect, I certainly have a bias for darker comedic documentaries where the ending feels not too disconnected from the begging and no growth really happens. This idea of the ending being not much happier or even darker than the start kind of helped me reflect my own views of how empty and isolated the suburbs are along with how much better I find city planning.
